The film's discussion guide is still being produced by PJ Starr and Kini Seawright and we will post it up as soon as we can. In the meantime here are some resources to download and/or buy to read.
TENACIOUS: Art and Writing by Women in Prison is a collection of articles, essays, poetry and art by formerly and currently incarcerated women across the United States. Their works cover subjects like the health care (or lack of health care) system, being HIV-positive inside prison, trying to get an education while in prison, sexual harassment by prison staff and general prison conditions, and giving up children for adoption. In one issue a woman wrote a poem for Marcia Powell and in another a woman wrote about her. Reading Tenacious helped director PJ Starr learn more about the interconnected nature of incarcerated women's experiences. Copies of Tenacious can be purchased for about $6 online.
Peggy Plews has created resources at the now retired Arizona Prison Watch page that document the brutality of the prison system and how we may resist this dehumanization. Peggy created the Free Marcia Powell blogspot that was the first resource PJ Starr encountered when researching the documentary NO HUMAN INVOLVED.
